About

In a hole-in-the-wall pub, there sat a few adult hockey beer leaguers.

Team dinner

Honestly, what better way to start the origins of our Barley Boyos adult hockey tournament team could there be? Just like the American Revolution, the creation of our Barley Boyos tournament team was formed in a drinkery with a few inspiring pints and a revolutionary dream. This dream, however, was to bring "suds" and "buds" together...and if these buds of ours could also pass and shoot a puck...well then, okay, we'll all play hockey too!

In 2019, led by our "beer-first, talent-second" motto, we recruited and formed our first official Barley Boyos team---wearing sponsored jerseys courtesy of Weir Plumbing Heating and Cooling, and competed in the Fall Weatherman adult hockey tournament in Durango, CO.  Our team---mostly made up of overweight, somewhat-balding, middle-aged men---battled our way to 4th place and felt inspired! Never mind the small, insignificant fact that there were only four teams in our division. The Barley Boyos were here to stay.

Since then, we've grown into two teams (Intermediate & Novice), and have played in over 20 new and annual tournaments throughout New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada. We even host our own annual adult hockey tournament during the summer at our home ice rink, the McDermott Athletic Center, in Rio Rancho, NM, called the MAC Cup Adult Hockey Tournament. With a joyful history and several beer/hockey traditions, we now move toward the creation of the Barley Boyos Adult hockey CLUB---a group that not only forms hockey tournament teams, but also grows and promotes the joy of adult hockey in a variety of ways, one beer at a time.

If you're looking for guys to drink beer with, and you don't think you're all that special, but, you know, can still pass and shoot the puck...then join us!

PS: We drink responsibly.
